Here is a pledge I gave when graduating from my alma mater
“We, the graduates of engineering studies at the Slovak University of Technology in Bratislava, ‘pledge’ that we will practice our profession as engineers in accordance with the principles of ethics and professional honor, for the benefit of our Alma Mater and the development of civil society.”
Recently a colleague of mine declined to take responsibility for a project under certain circumstances. At first I was mad. The next day I remember this and he was right. We need to take our pledges seriously.
And I know he was not explicitly thinking about this. He even went to a different university. But he has his rules and compass and was not willing to cross a line.
