You can have soldiers or you can have mercenaries. Soldiers fight for their friends, family, country, an idea. Mercenaries fight for money.
Soldiers usually have much higher morale as they have nonmonetary reason to fight.
The same applies for a company. You can have employees and teammates who care about what the company does. Or you can pay mercenaries to do work for you who just care about the next paycheck.
