Being Consumed by Oneself

I have read and heard many times, that many of the psychological issues we have as people come from thinking too much about ourselves. If we focus more on our community, work, tasks, then we have less mental issues.

I think the same can be applied to organizations. If you spend more time on how you work as an organization, processes, reviews etc. than actually delivering value to the world outside and interacting with it, being it customers, suppliers or competitors, you will go crazy as an organization.

It is good to think about oneself once in a while, that is why meditation is useful. But also meditation is not about dwelling on our thoughts and feelings but observing them and redirecting our focus elsewhere, usually on our surrounding.

As a leader or manager, you need to do the same for your organization. Observe, ignore the feelings and bad thoughts, refocus again and again on the outside world and how to absorb and handle it.
