People care about their immediate surrounding the most. A lot can change in the world, but if their personal situation is not changed much, they will be ok with it.
At least that is how it used to be. Many people today are affected by news and social media so much, that even if their immediate surrounding has not changed or even improved, they are still unsatisfied.
This make sense to some extent. Changing world, country or company can affect you in the end negatively. So being aware and preventing negative impacts make sense.
But often people have no influence to affect some changes, all you can do is prepare for the impact and hope for the best.
